New Delhi: The Union Cabinet in a meeting to discuss the
future course of action for Delhi Assembly has accepted Lieutenant
Governor Najeeb Jung's report and recommended President's Rule in the
national capital. It has also recommended that the Assembly be placed
under suspended animation. The Cabinet's recommendation has been
forwarded to President Pranab Mukherjee for approval.
L-G Najeeb Jung, in his report, had rejected the recommendation of the outgoing AAP government that the Assembly be dissolved. The LG's move keeps the option open for any political party or a combination of parties to try and form a government in future.
The Cabinet decision will come into effect after promulgation of a notification by the President. The decision will thereafter need an endorsement by Parliament through a resolution under Article 356 of the Constitution.
The L-G along with his report had also sent the resignation letter of Arvind Kejriwal to the Centre.
Union Cabinet ministers met on Saturday evening at Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's residence after Arvind Kejriwal resigned as the Chief Minister of Delhi along with his Cabinet on Friday within 49 days of coming to power.
