How About A Date... With Yourself

HOW ABOUT A DATE...... WITH YOURSELF

Every now and then you dress up, look pretty, behave your best, try to impress someone. Let me ask you something...
When was the last time you dressed up for yourself; Went out on your own, behaved the way you wanted to, ate what you felt like, read or watched what you love.
Can't remember. Hence I say go on a date with yourself. And I say so while running the risk of sounding like one of those lunatic old ladies who lives alone with 20 cats.

With the advent of phones, 3g internet, facebook, whatsapp, instagram one is rarely ever alone so don't call it a date unless you have been able to keep these aside for a moment. (Tough? Well who said falling in love is easy.) These instruments allow you to connect with the world but as times are passing we've started to forget the art of connecting with our own self. Most of our preferences are now dictated by what is trending on popular web pages. We tend to follow the herd while making decisions(seriously if that was meant to be then collective noun for humans would be the same as that of sheep.)

Make time once in a while, just to be with oneself. There is a unique serenity in being able to disconnect. Hearing the sounds of the birds, watching ants crawl, seeing ripples in the lake, figuring out shapes being made by the clouds. We all did that as kids and I guess each one of us can agree that those truly were the best times. Maybe they were so because back then we didn't burden ourselves with the added responsibility of pleasing others. Psychology would call this Cognitive Dissonance.

Before anyone decides to judge me and call me a loner and make Forever Alone trolls at my expense I'd want to clarify that I'm just like any other girl who you'd find binging in a cafe with friends, making loud jokes in movies, instagramming every moment.. Yet I'm also the girl who you'd probably see once in a while sitting alone inside a fort, a serene smile spread across the face, similar to what Romeo may have had when he saw Juliet for the first time...
